We all know that the world needs a new conscience about the environment, we must change our little habits to contribute for a better global house. I think that we need some examples and some initiatives to give us some courage and some inspiration. The great thing is that we have from big companies some cool green initiatives and they really have that conscience about this issues.
Not only on computers technology, for example Mitsubishi have one green initiative on theirs air conditioning called green gateway initiative, and the traditional and well know recycle organizations are keeping and innovating new recycles processes for better and more products.
On the web, we can find some cool pages with interactive applications to help us on our habits and our behavior with environment. http://green.msn.com/ and http://www.carbongrove.com/ are two cool places to visit.
So big technology companies have this subject on schedule, we can visit theirs web pages to see the vision and the strategy from each one.

There are many initiatives, and some challenges like ImagineCup have also adopted this question in theirs terms and applications. On other hand we have the motors companies worried about this and they are investing on hybrid and similar's technologies to contribute for a green environmental and to save some money from our pockets.
Definitely our great individual contribution can be by reducing the power consumption, on laptops we can use energy save plan, on desktops keep them in a lower state of power and when buying new electronic equipment keep in mind the power consumption table. In each house we can change some old lamps to the new ones, I'm remembering now that EDP (Portuguese electric supplier) have a initiative for this, keeping recycle trash and give some vacations to our car.
So let's take the wave and going green.

After a great challenge, yesterday were the great night with six funny games up to win the prizes. At Microsoft Portugal auditorium, the six teams had a change to show each game running on PC and Xbox 360.
The six games were:
1 - HomeWorld
This game is about a little word that you can take care against the pollution. With a nice graphics, it's possible to simulate how we can damage our little word. First prize!
2 - Super Tenia and Friends
Inside of a pig intestine an tapeworm to control the level of fatness. Too much fat the pig goes to butcher! Else the pig dies. Second prize.
3 - Symbiose
This game came from a group of IST students. It's another 3D simulation about the environmental damage that we can made by constructing and developing a industrial city. Third prize!
4 - PizzaShoot
As the name suggest, the teenage mutant ninja turtles were back to get pizzas in theirs faces! This is my team game with Bruno Silva. Fourth Prize!
5 - Xpaces and qualquer coisa
This were a similar game as the well known space battle. Bruno Tavares has made some great adjustments.
6 - Dentinho Pescada
A warier fish combats the evils sea species. A cool 2D game with a scary scenario.
So the formula is quite simple: night + some pizzas & very silly XNA games! Yeah! Great event, great evening indeed!
I think that this initiative is a big step to get the game developers inside of XNA gaming world. Remember that if you want to get started with this technology the XNA web site, Creators Club and the Dream Build Play Challenge are the best guides.
Congratulations for all participants and for the extraordinary event organization.

O Pop Up andou por todo o país a dar uma cor diferente no dia-a-dia dos estudantes de cada local. Começou em Abril no ISCTE (Lisboa), passou pela Universidade de Coimbra, Évora, este presente na cidade invicta na FEUP, foi dar uma volta à praia na Caparica (na FCT) e terminou na passada quinta-feira onde nasceu Portugal, no campus da Universidade do Minho localizado em Guimarães. (…) O popup é sem dúvida uma grande festa! E mais do que uma festa, é um evento que é feito em conjunto com as universidades, com as Associações académicas e com alguns núcleos estudantis locais. Portanto esta é uma festa feita por todos os que nela participaram e contribuíram.
Ficamos à espera de voltar a ouvir falar, e mais do que isso, VER o Pop Up pelas universidades portuguesas no próximo ano lectivo.

Yesterday at Microsoft Portugal auditorium, the Portuguese Windows Mobile community pocketpt.net has performed their 4th seminar on Windows Mobile technologies. Nowadays we kwon and people needs mobility, this means that everywhere in any place we want our basic information with us. Email, messenger, RSS, Internet browsing, etc on an little device. So Windows Mobile is a great response of these scenarios, and this community provides in a local language great contents about it.
Forums, devices and performances reviews, tips and tricks are their mainly goals. Above that, helping and trade theirs knowledge is daily updated to provide a non-stop community life-cycle. This seminar is one of theirs initiative to get together with all members, sponsors and with the most recent technologies on this area.
This is a great example of what I think that a community should be. Moderated people on the content, great content on web site and an nice improbability between every post. For seven years Nuno Luz (MVP for Mobile Devices) has been committed with others members on maintenance and providing helpful content for Portuguese windows mobile users.
I don't know if in other countries exists a similar community, but here in Portugal we have that lucky.
Congratulations for the great seminar that had many people, and even more for the great community work. :)

Ontem decorreu a final Portuguesa do maior concurso mundial de estudantes o Imagine Cup. Este ano com o tema sobre o Ambiente, a Culturgest acolheu o evento para que 7 equipas finalistas pudessem demonstrar os seus projectos (veja a descrição sumária de cada um feito pelo Bruno Silva), as suas ideias para tornar o nosso ambiente um pouco melhor.
Esta final esteve inserida no dia da Inovação, como tal as apresentações dos trabalhos foram feitas na parte da manhã e o fórum de empreendedorismo realizado na parte da tarde. Este fórum foi composto por um painel muito interessante com algumas personalidades bem conhecidas na área e também contou com a presença do Sr. Ministro da Economia, Manuel Pinho.
Seguiram-se apresentações de alguns casos de sucesso, como o netjovens, a empresa YDreams, o programa mais, o lançamento do programa boost,com o objectivo de ajudar na concretização e na verdadeira implementação das ideias promissoras.
O evento terminou com o anúncio, e respectiva entrega de prémios, das classificações das 7 equipas, e os nossos representantes para a final mundial em Paris… é a equipa da UTAD com o projecto Smart container! Acredito, espero que esta equipa tenha muito sucesso na final mundial e que aumente a visibilidade dos projectos e das ideias dos estudantes portugueses.
Queria deixar um agradecimento aos patrocinadores, pelo facto de apostarem num concurso que não só pode mudar a sociedade tecnológica como também acredita e apostas nas ideias nacionais.
Outra palavra de agradecimento a todo o público presente, o auditório esteve cheio. Assim é demonstrado o interesse e o despertar para as ideias e para os projectos inovadores.
Para quem não esteve presente, este ano e com o apoio do sapo.pt o evento foi transmitido em directo no endereço http://videos.sapo.pt (ver secção: canais em directo). Neste canal pode-se ainda assistir à repetição de todas as emoções dos projectos a concurso, bem como ao fórum do empreendedorismo.
Gostaria de reforçar a importância deste concurso e de iniciativas semelhantes. Estas deverão ser premiadas pela capacidade de incentivar os jovens à descoberta de novas ideias, e à criação de apoios para as mesmas. Sem dúvida que hoje mais do que nunca as empresas, devem competir num mercado internacional, aumentar a sua competitividade através da inovação e com novas apostas de estratégias de negócio. Ao longo das várias edições deste concurso temos assistido uma pequena mudança nas atitudes, não só pela qualidade das ideias e dos projectos mas também pela coragem dos estudantes em acreditar no valor que as suas ideias poderão ter.
Portugal necessita de novos incentivos económicos e mais produtividade, quem sabe deste concurso não nascem estes novos indicadores de sucesso?
